FAQ
SUMMER CAMP PETOSKEY FAQ
⛺ So what is Summer Camp Petoskey?
Summer Camp Petoskey (which we're shortening to just 'Camp Petoskey' from here on) is a short-run horror murdergame set on a campgrounds somewhere in Michigan's upper peninsula. Every week, a mod posted log running from Monday to Thursday will be posted for daily threading and tags, with players more than welcome to post to the community for special events (such as meetups, etc). Every friday, a murder will be committed, and an investigation log will go up at 6pm EST. On Saturday, a trial log will go up at 12pm EST and run for six hours. (Why so short? Simple: the counselors really don't want to stay up with the kids all night.)
⛺ How long will the game last?
About two months, give or take.
⛺ What are the important dates for the game? Anything else we should know about the schedule?
The game speed is 1:1 on IC:OOC days.
The Test Drive Meme will go up May 12th.
Reserves will open on May 20, 12pm EST and will either shut when we reach the max of 28 reserves or close on May 24th, 11:59pm EST.
Applications will open on May 25th, 12pm EST and close on May 30th, 11:59 EST.
The game will open on June 1st.
⛺ How do I app?
You will need to reserve your character first, as unreserved applications will not be accepted. We are capping at 28 players, for an even 30 characters in game.
If you will not be around during the reserve period, we allow proxy reserves. However, we ask that you verify the reserve within 12 hours by replying to the reserve comment; if you fail to do this, then we will discard the reserve.
⛺ So who can I app?
Only characters 13 to 18 may be apped. After all, this summercamp is meant for teenagers! However, We will allow characters 11-12 at minimum, though you will have to fill out the 'suitablity' part of the app in order to let us know that the characters can understand the whole murdergame situation. Characters who are much older but look like teenagers are allowed to be apped. For example, Toshiro Hitsugaya from Bleach or Watanuki Kimihiro from from XXXHolic would be allowed to be apped in, despite their triple digit ages.
We ask that all canons be at least two months old before apping from them.
Characters must be able to communicate with each other in some way, and at least be sentient and humanoid - animals and anthropromorphic characters will not be allowed to app. Silent protagonists and canon characters are allowed, OC's and CRAU's are not.
All casts have a cap of 3 characters per canon.
⛺ Wait. You said this was a horror murdergame?
Camp Petoskey is meant as a throwback to classic teen camp slasher movies, such as Sleepaway Camp, but with a distinct Higurashi vibe. Trust and paranoia are meant to be major elements of the game, along with body horror in later stages of the plot. In addition, while this game will have potential 'good' endings that will allow for the dead to be revived, a 'good' ending doesn't mean an ending where everything is absolutely fine and dandy.
⛺ Is there an Activity Check?
Yes. Activity checks are due every Saturday after trial, and consist of 2 10 comment threads with two different characters. There are opportunities for rewards for extra AC - see below for more details.
⛺ What happens if I need to drop out of the game?
Contact the mods or comment to the Player Offering page to work out what'll happen. We do have something icly in place for people who need to drop or idle out, but we suggest that before you app in, please consider the time commitment a game like this will be. If it seems like you won't have the time or energy to keep up, then it's probably not a good idea to app.
⛺ Any Item Regains or extra rewards?
Yep! With every successful AC check, your character will icly receive 7 tickets for the week, which will be able to be used in the Camp Store. In the store, manned by one of the counselors, campers can buy the junk food lining the shelves - or request a specific item, be it from home or otherwise. Prices for requested items are at counselor discretion.
However, the store is only open for one day - Monday. This doesn't mean that your character can't use their tickets, however - they can be used to request favors from the counselors, and there are rumors one of the counselors is more than happy to get you whatever you want...provided you have the tickets for it.
There are opportunities to get extra tickets - making double AC mean that your character receives 14 tickets, and every linked private conversation that's 10 comments or over on AC is worth 4 tickets. Please note that extra AC follows the same AC rules - it must be with different characters. PC's may be with the same characters as used in AC, but only one PC with each character will be allowed. For example, if you linked two PC's with Madoka and one with Naruto, you would only receive 8 tickets.
⛺ So...murder, huh?
Yep. Every Monday, a motive for murder will be given. These motives will be private for the characters, though they're free to talk about them in public or private if they wish.
Every Tuesday, at 8pm EST, trust sheets for the week will have to be submitted. More on trust sheets and other things here! After all the sheets are in, mods will determine who's being killed that week and privately contact them. If there are players who volunteer to be murdered/kill on the Player Offering page, we'll take them into consideration first and foremost.
⛺ Okay, so what about investigations?
Investigations take place every Friday, 6pm EST. We'll have top levels for characters to tag into, and discover things about the body (or bodies!).
Please note that any evidence found by the campers will have to be remembered or brought to trial by the characters themselves. The counselors aren't going to bring the body or typed sheets of evidence for you, so buying some paper and pencils from the Camp Store to take notes might be a good idea.
⛺ And trials?
'Trial' isn't exactly the right word (more like fingerpointing over a campfire), but they will take place every Saturday, 12pm EST. As mentioned before, trials will take six hours, in which time characters can try and figure out who did it. Characters will vote on who they think did the deed, and the person with the most votes is then executed after the votes are tallied.
Please note that there is no penalty for voting incorrectly, and if the majority votes for someone innocent, they will still be executed. Cases will always be solvable, but they might not be that easy - especially with a shorter time period to deliberate with.
⛺ Is there a mastermind?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
⛺ Does my character keep their powers?
Yes, actually! Characters retain the powers they had in camp, but within reason. We'll go more into specifics about power nerfing when we accept your app, but in general, any power that would allow escape (like flying or teleportation) or ruin trials/murders (talking to spirits, healing mortal wounds) will be taken away or severely limited. We don't take away the really destructive ones, though - so please be inventive when killing your fellow campers!
⛺ My character doesn't have any powers...
That's not a question, but don't worry! Any character without powers will be given one! ...This doesn't mean they'll be useful or even wanted, but hey.
⛺ What's this about a Paranoia System?
There's more info about the Paranoia System here, but in general - the choices made on the trust sheets and IC character decisions at points either add or subtract from their internal paranoia counters. Once enough points are gathered, they're moved to a tier of paranoia, which has effects on how they behave. If enough of the campers hit a tier, the entire camp will be moved to that tier - regardless if people were paranoid or not.
⛺ So what happens if my character dies? Can I still tag with them?
Yes, actually! Dead characters will be allowed to continue tagging in the camp, as well as have a 'deadland' to participate in.
However...dead characters may have quite a few things wrong with them on the living side of things. Death changes people, after all...And a dead body stays dead.
We cannot confirm nor deny any zombie rumors at this point.
⛺ Where am I?
Why, you're a camper at Camp Petoskey, of course! A beautiful little summer camp on the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan. It's going to be fun summer full of friendship, the outdoors, and more excitement than you can shake a stick at!Kill.
⛺ Why am I here?
To go camping, of course! Why else would you be here? Complete the ritual.
⛺ Who are you?
Us? Well, we're your camp counselors, buddy. We're here to make sure you have a good ol' time out here on the lake. We'll be teaching you all sorts of things and watching out for you every step of the way. There's also the pastor, but Pastor Dan's a pretty nice guy, even if he follows an...interesting religion. You cannot trust anyone.
⛺ Can I go home?
Not yet! You gotta stay for the whole thing first - don't worry. If you're homesick, you'll have so much fun here that you'll get over it pretty quickly. Who wants to make smores?? You cannot fail. Kill them.

Nora here is actually a giant sort-of-three-headed demonic dog incidentally named Cerberus, but during most of his canon has a sealed human form, so I wanted to doublecheck that he was appable in this form. It's basically a sealed form that all demons have, and is held in place partly by the magic collar around his neck. I assume that he'd just be in sealed form forever™ in-game, which is actually preferable anyway because Giant Dog is really not something you want running around.
Second part to the question: he's actually contracted to a human back home, and pretty much all of his magic power got leased out to said human. This is more of a logistics question, in camp would his powers be with him or would his contract hold and they'd still be back home.....

unfortunately, i'll be away on vacation june 3-10 and won't be able to tag... i imagine this isn't ideal, given that it's right after the game starts, so let me know honestly if you think it'd probably be better to hold off on apping, or if you think it'd be possible to backlog successfully in a setting like this.
thank you!

One of the characters I'm considering apping is Metallia from The Witch and The Hundred Knight. In canon Metallia can't leave her swamp for long periods of time due to it being the main thing that sustains her. Would that be something that's handwaved or given a work around? Or would that progress like it would in canon (ie: getting very sick and then dying).
Do our characters remember everything about themselves or are there memory shenanigans kicking around?
And last but not least, if successfully reserve a character are we allowed to change our reserve to another character if we change our mind?
