TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME

This is the test drive meme for Summer Camp Petosky. Feel free to use this to voicetest, gather samples for your potential app, or just have fun in the setting! Reserves open on May 20th. Hit up our FAQ with any other questions!

Feel free to come up with your own scenarios as well! This is just a sampling of the camp fun that you can be expected to have in the game. Here is our Locations page!

1. WHO INVENTED TRUMPETS

You awake with a start in one of the cabins that litter the campgrounds to the soothing sounds of A goddamn trumpet in your ear.

Alright, it's not in your ear persay, but it is being played from a stereo in your cabin, cheekily repeating itself over and over until you stumble out of bed and turn the damn thing off. 'Bed' in this case being one of the bunks in a bunk bed, wearing entirely unfamiliar clothing.

Welcome to camp. Get to know your fellow campers, your new roommates and the other people who are getting the same wakeup call in the cabins nearby.

2. WHO INVENTED FROGS

It's night. There's nothing around but the soft sounds of nature - the wind, gentle splashes from the lake, Frogs screaming all night -

Apparently, one of your counselors has gotten fed up with the noise, and kept you all up so you could go and hunt frogs, with a light and a container with a lid to keep all your catches in. You've got a partner and until daybreak, and the team with the most frogs at the end of the day gets a whole week's worth of tickets. Think of all the candy you could buy with that.

2A. MAYBE BREAKFAST IS A BAD IDEA

The next morning as you all file in bleary eyed from a long night of frogging, you'll notice the kitchen is serving up all your standard american breaskfast favorites: pancakes, bacon, eggs, frog legs-

Frog legs.

Hm.

3. WHO WANTS TO GO HORSEBACK RIDING?

Thankfully, it's not all frogs and mayhem. The Counselors take you out horseback riding through the woods - which would be a fun time if not for one little fact.

The Horses you're riding are all entirely made from living wood. They even like pets and make the appropriate horse noises somehow, but they're made from wood. They don't seem to be dangerous at least, but...

The counselors warn you to stay on the trail and not go off it, no matter how much the horses want to go there. If you decide the warnings are for suckers, well...You won't get very far off the trail before the horses buck you off and begin sticking their roots into you, forcibly sucking your blood with delighted whinnies. At that point? All you can do is hope someone hears your screams and chances coming to save you.

On the other hand, if you listen to the counselors? You get a pleasant ride through a beautiful forest. Maybe listen to the counselors for once, yeah? Or don't - it's your funeral.

4. CAMP SLASHAWAY

Looks like one of your fellow Campers has died - at the hands of one of your own, no less. Maybe you should get around to checking out the body, and make notes of the condition - because the counselors sure aren't going to be any help here. And if you happened to do it...well, maybe you'd be better off misleading them or obfuscating evidence.

5. TRIALS AND SMORES

It's night. the campfire is roaring, you're all seated around it, and now you've been told to do your best to find the killer. Of course, the killer will be punished, but the counselors say they'll only be put in time out - which is a small wooden shack nearby. However, you can all see that they've put the victim's body in there...which is gross and intensely unsanitary. Yet at the same time, something about that hut just...frightens you.

You'd better find the killer, and hope that no one votes for you tonight.

Have fun!

The real power he had was over the people... But I think I corrected that well enough before I left.

[And here, a rather smug smile. It's always satisfying, seeing just how powerful he's become since he began his journey.]

The golems in your world... did you encounter them often?

Oh. . .?

[that comment earns Ashikawa a curious look from Mitsuru-- before his question completely takes her off guard and her brows arch in surprise. she never stated that she had met a golem in person, but it's only in hindsight taht she realizes her comments could have been taken to mean that she had]

[she backpedals quickly]

Often enough, you could say. But only in literature.

So they're only creatures of fiction where you're from?

[Not that he sounds too surprised at that prospect, either.]

[personal profile] fallbymyhands 2018-05-28 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, they were.

[except when it came to Shadows]

Creatures of folklore-- Jeweish in origin, if I'm not mistaken. It's curious to hear tales from someone who hails from a world where they were more than mere words on a page.

Not originally.

[He'll correct that much before he continues.]

But you're right. There's various stories about them, but the one thing in common is that they're made out of inanimate objects - like stone and mud.

[His words are confident, if calm. He's well-read for his age.]

Although there's plenty of books that only took the basic idea, as well.

[Jewish* I can spell aaah]

I see. . .

[and, because Mitsuru is an academic]

You sound extraordinarily well-read, but also well-versed in practical knowledge. What can you tell me about golems that might not be contained in standard literature concerning them?

[personal profile] killtheanimals 2018-05-28 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[He doesn't preen, or look self-satisfied at the compliment - it's the truth, so he simply accepts it for what it is.]

That's probably dependent on the world, isn't it?

[He nods at the horse he's currently on.]

Even I've never seen something like this before. I can't be sure it's a golem or not, of course, but it seems to follow a similar idea.

[Speaking of, the creature does begin to stray slightly from the path - though he'll quickly pull it back on course with a frown.]

...They don't seem to be completely mindless, either. [Which could mean many things.] So, if you're asking me to learn more about the possible golems in this world - I'm afraid I won't be much help.

[That part actually seems to annoy him. He's well read and does like to be informed in the things that could potentially affect him, at least.]

[at that, she gives a light chuckle]

I suppose that was part of it. The other part was merely to satisfy my natural curiosity.

But I suppose it's true that even someone knowledgeable cannot know everything there is to know in the universe. In that case, I suppose we'll simply have to learn about these wooden horse-shaped creatures together.

There's enough variations that it isn't too interesting, beyond a certain point.

[A wry smile, here.]

You can discuss the creation of golems 'in theory' until you're only mud and stone yourself, but I'd hardly call much of it useful. I only studied the practical use, myself.

[as Ashikawa's did earlier, Mitsuru's horse begins to drift from the path as well. she sternly pulls it back onto beaten ground, heels dug into the creature's side. she's firm. . .]

If you don't mind my asking, what was the practical use of golems where you come from?

[were they used as guards? as workers? as. . . something else?]

Usually as extra hands, if the magic user had a need for them.

[He purses his lips in thought.]

...That can cover a lot of different uses, however. Anything from an assistant to a warrior is possible. From what I gathered while studying, though... most people preferred to simply rely on other people for those jobs, rather than golems.

[He gives a slight shrug.]

I imagine the trouble of gathering materials might have been part of it, especially for those based in the city. [Most of the readily available materials were likely to be owned by someone or another, after all.] That, and... I suppose many would be put off by the lack of companionship, too.

[Like. Probably. Other wizards and sorcerers are extremely chatty, in Mitsuru's experience.]
