TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME

This is the test drive meme for Summer Camp Petosky. Feel free to use this to voicetest, gather samples for your potential app, or just have fun in the setting! Reserves open on May 20th. Hit up our FAQ with any other questions!

Feel free to come up with your own scenarios as well! This is just a sampling of the camp fun that you can be expected to have in the game. Here is our Locations page!

1. WHO INVENTED TRUMPETS

You awake with a start in one of the cabins that litter the campgrounds to the soothing sounds of A goddamn trumpet in your ear.

Alright, it's not in your ear persay, but it is being played from a stereo in your cabin, cheekily repeating itself over and over until you stumble out of bed and turn the damn thing off. 'Bed' in this case being one of the bunks in a bunk bed, wearing entirely unfamiliar clothing.

Welcome to camp. Get to know your fellow campers, your new roommates and the other people who are getting the same wakeup call in the cabins nearby.

2. WHO INVENTED FROGS

It's night. There's nothing around but the soft sounds of nature - the wind, gentle splashes from the lake, Frogs screaming all night -

Apparently, one of your counselors has gotten fed up with the noise, and kept you all up so you could go and hunt frogs, with a light and a container with a lid to keep all your catches in. You've got a partner and until daybreak, and the team with the most frogs at the end of the day gets a whole week's worth of tickets. Think of all the candy you could buy with that.

2A. MAYBE BREAKFAST IS A BAD IDEA

The next morning as you all file in bleary eyed from a long night of frogging, you'll notice the kitchen is serving up all your standard american breaskfast favorites: pancakes, bacon, eggs, frog legs-

Frog legs.

Hm.

3. WHO WANTS TO GO HORSEBACK RIDING?

Thankfully, it's not all frogs and mayhem. The Counselors take you out horseback riding through the woods - which would be a fun time if not for one little fact.

The Horses you're riding are all entirely made from living wood. They even like pets and make the appropriate horse noises somehow, but they're made from wood. They don't seem to be dangerous at least, but...

The counselors warn you to stay on the trail and not go off it, no matter how much the horses want to go there. If you decide the warnings are for suckers, well...You won't get very far off the trail before the horses buck you off and begin sticking their roots into you, forcibly sucking your blood with delighted whinnies. At that point? All you can do is hope someone hears your screams and chances coming to save you.

On the other hand, if you listen to the counselors? You get a pleasant ride through a beautiful forest. Maybe listen to the counselors for once, yeah? Or don't - it's your funeral.

4. CAMP SLASHAWAY

Looks like one of your fellow Campers has died - at the hands of one of your own, no less. Maybe you should get around to checking out the body, and make notes of the condition - because the counselors sure aren't going to be any help here. And if you happened to do it...well, maybe you'd be better off misleading them or obfuscating evidence.

5. TRIALS AND SMORES

It's night. the campfire is roaring, you're all seated around it, and now you've been told to do your best to find the killer. Of course, the killer will be punished, but the counselors say they'll only be put in time out - which is a small wooden shack nearby. However, you can all see that they've put the victim's body in there...which is gross and intensely unsanitary. Yet at the same time, something about that hut just...frightens you.

You'd better find the killer, and hope that no one votes for you tonight.

Have fun!

2. Frogs are our friends.

[Yes, the nearly 7 foot tall Tarzan lookalike is, in fact, a teenager. And while he claims to not be the smartest of the group, he does have an extensive knowledge of bugs from living in a forest for ten years. It's also a known fact that frogs like to eat bugs that live near ponds.

So the most logical place that he can think of to catch frogs is near a swarm of flies.]

Hello, little bugs! Gonta and friend here to catch frogs for you!

[Did we mention one of his hobbies is talking to the animals? Comes from living in a forest for ten years.]

3. Horses are not friends.

[Gonta was very hesitant to ride the horses. Not just because he might accidentally break them, but because they did not look like real horses. After some coaxing, he eventually saddles up and rides down the path.

Eventually, Gonta catches a glimpse of someone trying to wander off the path. This is very concerning, considering how the counselors worded their warning.]

WHERE ARE YOU GOING? [He shouts in concern,] COUNSELORS SAID NOT TO GO OFF PATH!

[If the horses decide to drag them off, Gonta won't hesitate to hop off his horse and rescue that person. After all, Gonta is pretty strong and doesn't want to see his new friends hurt like that.]

5. Oh no.

[Up until now, Gonta was having a sort of pleasant experience. Sure, he was kidnapped again and there were creepy things everywhere, but this place was full of wonderful insects and people! The counselors, though strange, seemed like nice people, and he was actually doing things were fun!

Then came the motives... And the murders... And this campfire trial.

Another killing game, that's what it is. Gonta is shaking a little, gripping his marshmallow stick so hard it's beginning to fracture. He's really scared of what might happen in the outhouse, even after the counselors said it was okay. But if being stuck in Monokuma's game taught him anything, it's how to participate in a group trial and figure out who the culprit is so nobody else gets hurt. May as well share his wisdom with the others.]

Does... Does anyone have alibi? Gonta can explain what alibi is if someone not sure.

[personal profile] bladeisme 2018-05-21 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's alright - there were a lot of people Ichigo might have been annoyed to be paired with this time, but Gonta wasn't one of them. The teen reminded him a lot of his best friend, Chad - who was also huge and looked much older than he actually was. The broken english was a little strange, but he was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on that. Everyone had different strengths, after all.

Though he is offhandedly waving his hand to get any flies away that come too close, because he's not fond of getting them on him.]

Gh...Do you see any, Gonta?

[He's got the flashlight in his hand, scanning the marshy ground.]

...Why're we even doing this? I don't mind extra tickets, but...the frogs are going to call regardless.
yunolikebugs: (And strength and breath)

The best boy!

[personal profile] yunolikebugs 2018-05-22 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
[He's trying his best, even if he doesn't understand grammar all too well.]

Why we do this? [Gonta thinks a bit as he scans the area for frogs.]

Gonta no mind doing this because he want to help counselors. Even if frogs still call, at least we did something nice, right?

[Then, there it is. Out of the corner of his eye...]

Mister Frog!

[The frog jumps off the lilly pad and into the water. Gonta rushes off after it.]

Come back, Mister Frog! Gonta not hurt you!

Whoa, wait-!

[And there he go....there goes the big boy. Ichigo heads after him, feet splashing in the water.]

Gonta, you're not going to catch frogs like that! You've got to be quiet and calm, you know?

[Listen he was a child in japan once, he totally spent a summer catching shit from the nearby river.]
yunolikebugs: (And the want of thought is death)

[personal profile] yunolikebugs 2018-05-23 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Gonta slows to a halt when Ichigo starts giving him instructions... Oh, huh. Guess he got too excited there.][]

Quiet and calm... Right!

[He tries walking toward it now, trying his best to kneel down and holds his hands out to the frog he has his eyes on.]

Here, Mister frog... [Well, that's an improvement to the shouting.]
bladeisme: (☾ 61.)

[personal profile] bladeisme 2018-05-24 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
[It is an improvement - and Ichigo nods, stepping closer himself.]

You're gonna want to be real slow as you walk up - if they stop calling, freeze in place until they go back to it. When you feel like you're close enough to grab it, then just go for it.

[He shrugs.]

It'd be a lot easier if we had a net or something, but...

[He stares over at Stan, who has clearly fallen asleep at this point.]

We'll make do, I guess.
yunolikebugs: (And the want of thought is death)

[personal profile] yunolikebugs 2018-05-24 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Gonta nods and speaks as quietly as he can.]

Gonta use to have bug catching net and bug cage. Not sure if work on frog...

[He is slowly coming up to the croaking frog and... Makes a grab for it!

Unfortunately, the frog got away faster than Gonta can catch it.]

Oh no... Gonta no good at frog catching...

2 frogger time

[personal profile] soylentprotag 2018-05-23 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
[If a 7-foot-tall walking tree has escaped the forest, how startling is it when you're creeping along trying to find frogs, run into a faceful of flies, and then suddenly realize the shadow you mistook for a good ol' oak actually has hair and not leaves and is apparently an animal whisperer?

Well, first of all, Lenka's mouth doesn't drop open because there are flies everywhere and he already regrets everything. Second of all he does his best to scramble backwards out of the swarm, slips on a bit of pond bank and falls over.

The good news is: he didn't fall on one of the frogs. The bad news is: his mouth did fall open when he went down, and now he's definitely coughing and regretting everything because he never needed firsthand experience of these bugs or what they tasted like???]

I... don't think... the flies--

[He doesn't manage to finish that because he's still trying to cough up fly bits. Gross...]
yunolikebugs: (If thought is life)

FFFF GONTA THE TREE

[personal profile] yunolikebugs 2018-05-24 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Aah!

[Oh no! Someone fell into the swarm!]

You okay? Here, Gonta help you up.

[Gonta carefully picks the stranger up and sets him back on his feet.]

What happen? Did you swallow bug?
soylentprotag: (061)

it's an easy mistake to make

[personal profile] soylentprotag 2018-05-24 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Whoa, he feels like he was literally just moved around like an action figure or something. He's not a giant, but he's definitely not tiny, so that was an interesting experience. Lenka blinks up at the-- the definitely human, now that his throat and his field of vision are a little clearer.]

Ah... yeah. I think I did. I didn't expect there to be so many...

[Actually, that reminds him of something else related to the stranger and his strange way of doing things--]

Did you say we were catching frogs for the flies?

[He is... pretty sure there's something off about that. Can't put his finger on it.]
yunolikebugs: (And the want of thought is death)

[personal profile] yunolikebugs 2018-05-24 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry! Gonta not think you catch bug with mouth like that...

[Gonta feels a little bad about that, but he's also being asked to explain.]

Actually, Gonta knows that frogs eat flies. That all good, but counselor said we gotta catch frog, which would do flies favor.

That make sense?
soylentprotag: (059)

[personal profile] soylentprotag 2018-05-24 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't think so either. [very dry] You don't have to apologize.

[None of it was Gonta's fault, really, other than being a bit startling in his own right.

Lenka's just very, very bad at this camping in nature thing -- nature back home was more like a pile of abandoned rock and mud and buildings. As nice as it is to have wildlife around, he's not so sure he's a fan of the insects. He brushes his hands through his hair a little just in case more flies have landed there.]

... Ah. So that is how it works.

[Frogs eating flies, that is. He's slowly learning that just looking at pictures of, say, frogs and horses isn't really cutting it when it comes to the real thing. Hmm.]

I'm not sure that makes me want to catch the frogs.

[It's only semi-serious. What happens if they catch too many frogs, though. He's no ecologist, but he is pretty sure they won't like what happens with the flies.]
yunolikebugs: (Shall brush my wing.)

[personal profile] yunolikebugs 2018-05-25 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[Gonta has first hand experience with nature, but not enough social experience to realize his partner's not 100% serious.]

It okay. Gonta sure counselors will put frogs back in morning.
soylentprotag: (061)

[personal profile] soylentprotag 2018-05-25 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[That's okay, Lenka's more lighthearted moments are the blink-and-you-miss it sort of thing. He doesn't quite mean to be hard to read, but his is a different variety of social awkwardness.

They'll manage somehow.

Gonta's new suggestion does make him raise an eyebrow, though.]

Uh... Doesn't that mean we'd have to catch them again tomorrow night?

[So he's pretty sure that's not right, unless this (and the extra sleep deprivation) is supposed to be some kind of regular activity. Lenka looks down at his empty bucket thoughtfully.]

I guess it's fine if we catch a few, for now.

[He does want some tickets.]

Gonta no sure. Counselors have other stuff planned, right?

[Catching frogs can't be the only thing we do in camp, right? Right??]
soylentprotag: (crouching eyebrow hidden fringe)

Well... if it's the noise that's the problem, I'm not sure about plans.

[The thing is, he has no idea how summer camps are supposed to work.

As far as he knows, they're all trapped here and expected to engage in some kind of... teambuilding? Bonding? With all of these strange tasks. Lenka hefts his bucket a little bit and looks around... they didn't scare off all the frogs with their rigmarole, right?

The flies, alas, are not scared off at all.]

Hmm. Can we use the flies...?

[If you can't beat 'em... join 'em?]
