TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME

This is the test drive meme for Summer Camp Petosky. Feel free to use this to voicetest, gather samples for your potential app, or just have fun in the setting! Reserves open on May 20th. Hit up our FAQ with any other questions!

Feel free to come up with your own scenarios as well! This is just a sampling of the camp fun that you can be expected to have in the game. Here is our Locations page!

1. WHO INVENTED TRUMPETS

You awake with a start in one of the cabins that litter the campgrounds to the soothing sounds of A goddamn trumpet in your ear.

Alright, it's not in your ear persay, but it is being played from a stereo in your cabin, cheekily repeating itself over and over until you stumble out of bed and turn the damn thing off. 'Bed' in this case being one of the bunks in a bunk bed, wearing entirely unfamiliar clothing.

Welcome to camp. Get to know your fellow campers, your new roommates and the other people who are getting the same wakeup call in the cabins nearby.

2. WHO INVENTED FROGS

It's night. There's nothing around but the soft sounds of nature - the wind, gentle splashes from the lake, Frogs screaming all night -

Apparently, one of your counselors has gotten fed up with the noise, and kept you all up so you could go and hunt frogs, with a light and a container with a lid to keep all your catches in. You've got a partner and until daybreak, and the team with the most frogs at the end of the day gets a whole week's worth of tickets. Think of all the candy you could buy with that.

2A. MAYBE BREAKFAST IS A BAD IDEA

The next morning as you all file in bleary eyed from a long night of frogging, you'll notice the kitchen is serving up all your standard american breaskfast favorites: pancakes, bacon, eggs, frog legs-

Frog legs.

Hm.

3. WHO WANTS TO GO HORSEBACK RIDING?

Thankfully, it's not all frogs and mayhem. The Counselors take you out horseback riding through the woods - which would be a fun time if not for one little fact.

The Horses you're riding are all entirely made from living wood. They even like pets and make the appropriate horse noises somehow, but they're made from wood. They don't seem to be dangerous at least, but...

The counselors warn you to stay on the trail and not go off it, no matter how much the horses want to go there. If you decide the warnings are for suckers, well...You won't get very far off the trail before the horses buck you off and begin sticking their roots into you, forcibly sucking your blood with delighted whinnies. At that point? All you can do is hope someone hears your screams and chances coming to save you.

On the other hand, if you listen to the counselors? You get a pleasant ride through a beautiful forest. Maybe listen to the counselors for once, yeah? Or don't - it's your funeral.

4. CAMP SLASHAWAY

Looks like one of your fellow Campers has died - at the hands of one of your own, no less. Maybe you should get around to checking out the body, and make notes of the condition - because the counselors sure aren't going to be any help here. And if you happened to do it...well, maybe you'd be better off misleading them or obfuscating evidence.

5. TRIALS AND SMORES

It's night. the campfire is roaring, you're all seated around it, and now you've been told to do your best to find the killer. Of course, the killer will be punished, but the counselors say they'll only be put in time out - which is a small wooden shack nearby. However, you can all see that they've put the victim's body in there...which is gross and intensely unsanitary. Yet at the same time, something about that hut just...frightens you.

You'd better find the killer, and hope that no one votes for you tonight.

Have fun!

Mitsuru Ashikawa | Brave Story

3.

[Horses are far from his favorite mode of transportation - gaining what was effectively flight made them pretty much useless in his eyes, and hardly worth the trouble. Still, the counselors say they must, so off he goes, even if it's with a rather incredulous look at the state of the "horses."

He climbs atop it with some skill, at least. This isn't exactly his first rodeo. Once he's settled, he even leans forward a bit, brushing a hand against the creature's wooden neck.
]

Just what are you...?

[His voice is quiet and contemplative.]

4.

[The scene of the murder was, shockingly, unpleasant. The sight, the smell, the blood - even Mitsuru can't hide his surprise at first, dark eyes going wide.

But only just. Soon after, he can be found sketching out the corpse, although his nose wrinkles as he does so. Considering his aptitude for art, it's not half bad.

Upon completion, he picks it up and holds it out with both arms, making sure that everything lines up more or less - though if he notices someone watching, he'll turn to them with a frown.
]

Did you want something?

[Sharply, all but saying, "if not, leave me alone."]

Mostly I wanna know how you can keep looking at that without ralphing all over your sketchbook. Is your dad a butcher, or something? My friend Mike, his grandpa's a butcher. He sees like, lamb guts all the time.

It's not an Aragami. Probably.

[ He announces as he hesitantly rests his hand on the "nose" of the wooden horse. It breathes heavy on his palm as he pulls it back, stepping away. Soma figured that it wasn't one that attacked on touch given that the kid is on it. So what exactly is its function. Even though he sounded somewhat sure of himself, he isn't quite sure if it isn't an Aragami. It doesn't smell like one, anyway. It doesn't act like one, either. ]

This is ... this is in the shape of a horse? I thought they were extinct. [ Yes, all the Aragami devoured them all, didn't they. ] But really... this whole place... [ Soma looks around at all the green and breathes in deep. It isn't like the smell of the wastelands that he's used to, or even how things are in Fenrir. It's nature, huh? How are they maintaining it? ]

You doing all right, kid?

[personal profile] killtheanimals 2018-05-23 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Aragami?

[A pause, and then a shake of the head.]

Hardly. I think that's probably giving them too much credit.

[He leans back again, perfectly comfortable where he sits.]

I'm doing well enough. But you... where you're from, horses are extinct?
monsterofgod: (Default)

[personal profile] monsterofgod 2018-05-23 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
[ It's his turn to pause. ]

You ... you've never heard of them?

[ What kind of paradise is that? ]

What do ya mean that it's giving them too much credit? [ His eyebrows raise, kind of surprised at such a response. If it isn't being watched over, how is it here?

And he looks around at everything once more, carefully, thoughtfully. Where is he from that horses are extinct? That a sight such as this is so rare that he can't even fully comprehend it? ]

Hell. [ A pause. ] Earth. But it's the same thing, really, in comparison.
killtheanimals: (I woke up)

[personal profile] killtheanimals 2018-05-23 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
They exist in myth where I'm from. [Another pause.] Where I'm originally from.

[There's a distinction. He'll go ahead and begin coaxing the horse into a trot.]

What I mean to say is, I don't think these creatures have much power. [He's actually beginning to suspect they're something like golems.] Though if you're from an earth that doesn't even have horses, you must be from much further in time than me/
monsterofgod: (Default)

[personal profile] monsterofgod 2018-05-23 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Myths? Are you saying that -- they're just gone now?

[ Did they do it? Did they erase them from history? Not in his lifetime, no, but in the future, there's a future without them? ]

No... I'm kind of hoping that you're the one in a further time than mine. I'm hoping that you might be from our Earth. [ A beat. He's going to leave the issue of the wooden horse to the side right now. ] ... Hey, kid, what year is it for you?
killtheanimals: (the wild ones)

[personal profile] killtheanimals 2018-05-23 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
I'm saying, they never even existed.

[His voice is lofty, like the little know-it-all he is in his heart of hearts.]

They're just myth. Stories people told each other, probably to explain things they didn't understand. [The fools. But, to answer the question he actually asked:]

It's 1999.
monsterofgod: (Default)

[personal profile] monsterofgod 2018-05-23 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ah, it might be his own Earth. An Earth he has never experienced, and it might not be. There's no way to tell. ]

1999, huh. [ He makes a soft tsking sound. That's right -- he remembers that the Aragami were named such by others. Naming them after myths. What is the point of it. He isn't one to argue about it; besides, it's already said and done. ]

If the apocalypse is coming, then... you probably won't miss it. But if a business known as Fenrir appears, join it. That's the only advice I have for staying alive, if you are from my Earth. [ 'Course, the warning he's giving is for fifty years in the future. ]

[It's too bad Mitsuru was just having a philosophical moment with his horse, because--

BONK.

--one way to keep headstrong horses more-or-less on the trail is to... send them the other way, which more often than not results in horses running into each other as they gallivant along. Lenka here has absolutely never been on a horse or even a horse-adjacent creature in his life; it's debatable how he even managed to get on the horse, judging by the awkward way he's sprawled over its back, arms looped halfway around its neck to keep from accidentally sliding off.

He looks apologetic and a little overwhelmed at the moment, and is... trying to steer his equally confused horse with the crooks of his elbows, possibly.]

Ah... Sorry. Are horses usually this hard to ride? Is this a test?

[Why is that the first thing he asks. What about the fact that the horses are living wood.]

[Can't a kid get philosophical with his weird horse in peace these days.

There isn't an immediate answer, as Mitsuru is busy trying to get his own horse back under control before it goes careening off into the forest. It's only once he'sgot it settled with a hand patting its neck that he finally looks back to Lenka, expression sharp.
]

...If it's a test, you seem to be failing.[Bluntly.] Handling these ones isn't too different from a normal horse, at least.
soylentprotag: (crouching eyebrow hidden fringe)

[personal profile] soylentprotag 2018-05-23 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[This is summer camp, peace is a social construct.

Surprisingly, while Lenka's horse gives a few restless tosses of its head to register its displeasure at his handling (or lack thereof) and the bump, it seems to otherwise be taking its useless rider pretty well. Maybe he lucked out and got a calm wooden horse. Maybe he's secretly good with animals...? Nah.

Lenka's just going to tighten his arms a little around the horse's neck to tug himself back into some semblance of a sitting position. Then he's going to look back and forth between his own situation and Mitsuru's and at least... pick up the reins with one hand. Attempt made.

His horse grumbles a little at the additional mixed signals it's getting, but at least it doesn't run into anything else.]

Hmm. I guess I am. [he definitely still looks a little abashed, but he's still on the trail, at least... that and] I've never handled a horse. They're not usually like this, are they?

I've seen stranger things.

[It's a little bit rueful, because he has definitely seen more fucked up shit than a big toy horse... (I guess they haven't figured out exactly how fucked up the horse is yet.) But it's still somewhat disconcerting to be expected to ride an animal like this. He's not entirely sure it counts as an animal in this instance, but he's still careful now that he has it in hand, testing out the reins and how the horse-thing responds.

Once he gets it moving a little straighter, Lenka looks back at Mitsuru again.]

I guess you can't tell everything from pictures.

[. . .]

[Mitsuru doesn't even bother looking up, still examining the beast.]

It reminds me a little of a golem. Using components from the earth is common, since it's so easy to come by.

[Well, the earthy part, anyway. The human part is usually a bit... trickier, assuming one is creating them properly.]
