DEADLAND
[Some time after your character dies, they will wake up in their bunk in camp. But something is wrong here, so very wrong.
Venture outside, and you will see that you're still in camp, but it's trapped in a foggy twilight. Time doesn't seem to pass, and it's quiet. Too quiet. No animals, no breeze, nothing.
The only sign of anything living is in the trees, where dozens and dozens of ghostly figures roam. Sometimes they might come into camp, but you'll probably have to go out to meet them if you want to talk to them. They all seem to be watching camp, but are shy and might flicker away if they're approached.
Finally, in the chapel in the lodge, there is a shadowy figure. It looks like a preteen, perhaps? Maybe 11 or 12 or so. But that's about all you can get from it at a glance.
But you're here now, and there are things to do. Where will you start?]

I don't care, I'll-- I'll kill them. They don't... they don't deserve to get out of here with us... I'll... they won't touch him again! They won't!!
[ The rant is continuously punctuated by sobs and gasps for air. Sorry Lance, your shirt is getting very wet. ]

We don't know what the culprit was responsible for. Last time it was Red who did that to Usagi.
[His tone is firmer there, but his voice stays the same quiet volume.]
For the most part, these murders have all been accidents. Just... try to remember that. I know that it doesn't change anything. I know it's not going to bring Eddie back or make you hurt less -- just trust me, I get it. I still don't know how to feel about Shirou. [Or Shiro, but.\ It's just... we gotta stay focused.

[ Though Boa's voice loses a bit of that maniacal edge to it, he's not snapped out of it that easily. All Lance is doing this far is making him adjust his murderous course.
Someone has to pay, someone just has to pay. It's the only thing Boa can think of that feels anywhere close to fixing what had been messed up. ]
Archer split them up. You heard them say it, he split them up again and--
[ And it was all as it was when he killed Usagi. It's a sobering thought to formulate properly in his head. Boa actually stops talking and moves on to just crying. ]

I won't say that you're wrong for wanting to go after Archer. But I will have to stop you if you do.

At least they'll live. Boa had been telling it to himself so much. Now that Mitsuru and Nine were taking care of his weaker friends, he'd finally become confident that they would make it through camp. He'd used it to hold himself up. Now it's crashing down on him that there's no such thing as certainty and that he is entirely powerless to do anything about what happens to those he loves. It's a miserable feeling.
When Lance finally speaks up again, he manages to actually look up and focus himself enough to respond without being interrupted by sobs. ]
... because it will risk it all, won't it? If I did....

[No hiding that fact. If Boa makes himself the liability for all of their chances of getting out of here, then it's clear what the correct course of action is for the team, even if it means one individual doesn't get what they want. But even if it weren't the case, they've all seen what Archer can do. Boa doesn't need to be reminded of that vast inequality in power though, so Lance just gives him a light, friendly punch to the shoulder.]
But you're also like a little brother to me. Like heck, I'm letting you do something reckless.
no subject
[ This startles Boa to hear. It's familiar in a strange way. He's in the arms of an older boy, sobbing his heart out, and he's being told he's family... Does one only gain family when the mind is falling apart?
But with Nine, he'd... he'd expected it, to some degree. Nine had said a lot about his affections for them before, it was a fact established between them.
Lance is vaguer, Lance is a friend probably, but beyond... Boa has trouble putting words to his relationships to anybody. He doesn't know where one thing starts and another ends. ]

[Lance grins then shakes his head. Boa's a friend, sure, but he's also the closest thing Lance has to a person he can banter with on a sillier level - like a rival, but without actual enmity. Someone he can switch gears with readily, from teasing to giving serious advice to. Boa may not associate these kinds of things with family, but Lance grew up with three siblings.]
I wouldn't have thought this would end up happening, but now that it has....... I guess you're stuck with my nagging for a little bit, huh.
[He gives Boa a bit of a playful nudge with his elbow.]
no subject
... I won't do anything reckless then.
[ Boa has just freshly experienced loss and he... he may not want Lance to go through that. Not again, not after he's seen how it was after Floe died. These feelings of care for another person's well-being are still new, but they're becoming increasingly normal for Boa. That, too, is strange. ]
no subject
That's a promise, right?
[He holds out his hand. Yes he's making Boa pinky swear on this. The most solemn of swears.]
no subject
But after a moment of hesitation, he does link their pinkies. ]
Promise. [ ... ] Idiot.
[ Boa's kept all his promises so far. Not every goal may have been reached, but a promise is a promise and he doesn't give them lightly. He just knows Lance is right, they can't let themselves get side-tracked by grudges and hatred. There are still people out there who Boa wants to reach, no matter what happened today. Losing focus now would be pathetic, wouldn't it? Or at least saying it like that is a good self-motivator to a child with Boa's priorities. ]
no subject
Man, you're cold.
[A toothless remark. It's all part of the usual joshing around they do to help Boa get back a sense of normalcy, even though nothing really is "normal" right now.]
You owe me a new shirt when we get outta here.
no subject
[ Is it a damage of property when the property is just a spiritual manifestation of objects that existed in the real world? That is not a question Boa is prepared to answer, but he is willing to raise it just for the sake of argument. ]
no subject
That was from my shirt. It says to stop hurting its feelings.
no subject
[ Maybe it's a testament to just how much death they have seen lately that Boa's mind readily latches onto the silly banter and pushes its concerns to the side. His chest is still heavy and he won't be alright for a long while, but part of him simply wants to take every bit of relief he can get from that pain.
That part of him makes Boa grab the pillow from Lance, only to instantly toss it at his face again. ]
no subject
Hey!
[Snatching that up before Boa can, he whacks Boa's arm.]
Don't attack me, I'm just the messenger here.
no subject
[ Grabbing at that pillow now. Give it back!
Having a pillow fight with just one pillow might be a little inconvenient in the end. ]
no subject
[Nope nope nope, not letting og of that pillow.
Actually, since Boa's tugging on it pretty hard, Lance will let go very suddenly and see if the kid ends up whacking himself in the face with it.]
no subject
... and Boa just lets himself flop over backwards onto the bed, pillow against his face. Goodbye cruel world, here he rests. ]
no subject
Just. So Much Laughter.]
no subject
... idiot.
